  • Olive oil
  • Onion, chopped
  • Garlic
  • Tomato paste
  • Cumin
  • Salt & pepper
  • Chili powder
  • Vegetable broth
  • Water
  • Red lentils
  • Carrot, diced
  • Lemon juice
  • Chopped cilantro



  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot. Saute the onion and garlic until softened.
  2. Add tomato paste, cumin, salt, pepper, and chili powder and saute until fragrant.
  3. Add broth, water, red lentils, and carrot. Bring to a simmer, then cook over medium-low heat, partially covered, until the lentils are soft (about 30 minutes).
  4. Puree the soup using a blender or immersion blender.
  5. Stir in lemon juice and cilantro.
